Some habits form because a prompt works well enough to keep using, so nobody looks at it again. These seven AI prompt mistakes quietly cost hours every week. This listicle names each one and gives you the fix.
The 7 AI prompt mistakes almost everyone makes
- 1. Over-explaining. Long explanations instead of clear specifications.
- 2. No output format. Leaving the shape of the answer to chance.
- 3. Buried instructions. The most important rule hidden in the middle.
- 4. Unwrapped user input. Input mixed in with your instructions.
- 5. No definition of a good answer. The model has to guess what you want.
- 6. Testing once. One good run, then calling it done.
- 7. No version history. Editing in place and losing what worked.
